August 4, 2025 – Egg-take update
Main Bay Hatchery started sockeye egg-take operations on Friday, August 1. As of yesterday, they are 17% complete with their egg goal. Today, MBH staff are sorting through brood to prepare for tomorrow’s egg-take.
The next CR update will be tomorrow to include the results from today’s harvest.

WNH reached their chum egg-take goal on Sunday, July 20! It was a smooth egg-take this year with good to excellent female percentages every day. Our awesome crew met the goal in a steady and solid 14 days, starting July 7.

July 15, 2025
WNH started egg-take on July 7 and is 54% complete. The female percentage yesterday was 57% with good numbers of ripe, ready fish. Egg-take will continue daily.
July 8, 2025
PWSAC began cost recovery on June 8. On July 4, PWSAC met the aggregate chum and sockeye cost recovery revenue goal.
WNH started egg-take yesterday and is 4% complete. The female percentage yesterday was 64% with good numbers of ripe, ready fish.
MBH passed all brood into the pond on July 5 and will begin egg-take in August when brood has matured.
July 3, 2025
PWSAC began cost recovery at WNH on 6/8. Yesterday, a total of 560,000 pounds were harvested. Approximately another 649,000 pounds were harvested today. The average chum size was 5.6 pounds. Due to limited sockeye run entry at Main Bay, aggregate cost recovery began at WNH on Sunday and will continue Friday, 7/4, when PWSAC anticipates completing the gillnet revenue goal for 2025. Brood collection at WNH is ongoing. Of the 228,000 goal, 150,000 fish are estimated to be available for brood.
At MBH, cost recovery began on 6/20. Cost recovery did not take place yesterday. Brood collection began on 6/21. Of the 12,000 goal, 9,188 fish have passed into the brood pond.
Including today’s harvest, the total gillnet revenue goal is approximately 96% complete.
July 2, 2025
PWSAC began cost recovery at WNH on 6/8. Yesterday, a total of 428,000 pounds were harvested. The average chum size was 5.5 pounds. Due to limited sockeye run entry at Main Bay, aggregate cost recovery began at WNH on Sunday and continues daily. Brood collection also continues daily: of the 228,000 goal, 100,000 fish are available as brood.
At MBH, cost recovery began on 6/20. There was no cost recovery at Main Bay yesterday. Harvesting will resume when fish are available. Brood collection began 6/21: of the 12,000 goal, 7,435 fish have passed into the brood pond.

MBH has not begun cost recovery. Staff began seeing jumpers on 6/11. Currently, staff estimate that fewer than 4,000 fish are near the hatchery, but the number has been building over the last 3 days. PWSAC will begin cost recovery as soon as sufficient fish are available for harvest.

Cost recovery has not begun at MBH. Currently, staff are not reporting any fish sightings in the bay.
